2006 Award Recipient:
Sara Miller-McCune, McCune Foundation
The
McCune Foundation was established in 1990 by George D. McCune
and Sara Miller McCune, the founders and principal management
team (for 25 years) of SAGE Publications, Inc. Their mission is
to be an agent of productive change in society by supporting the
growth of social capital in communities. The Foundation seeks
to: strengthen the operating capacities of leadership community
organizations; support the growth of community networks that build
collaborative approaches to sustain social change; promote the
application of usable knowledge through the discipline of the
Social Sciences to the work of community organizations the Foundation
supports; and to share with others—community leaders, funders,
public officials—the lessons gained from the practical experiences
of these funding partnerships and encouraging the healthy exchange
of ideas relevant to building healthier and more self-reliant
communities.
