2006 Award Recipient:
Frank & Katharine Miller, Monroe Foundation
The
Henry E. & Lola Monroe Foundation was established in 1982
by Margaret “Peggy” Brown. Peggy was born in San Francisco,
and then moved to Pasadena, and then to Carpinteria. She formed
the Foundation as a way of helping to make the community she lived
in a better place. Her initial effort was to build three buildings
at the Carpinteria Boys & Girls Club because she wanted to
make things better for the children of the area. When she passed
on, she endowed the Foundation, charging it with the mission to
serve our community’s most deserving population. She had
a special place in her heart for the children, especially the
less fortunate and those who are conspicuously underserved. The
Board of Trustees of the Foundation supports small, non-profit
organizations that implement new, innovative ideas.
