Letter from the Executive Director

Dear T.A.P. Participant,

You are invited to join us on a journey—a journey of self-discovery!

The Transfer Achievement Program and Emmaus of Santa Barbara have teamed up to give you the opportunity to participate in Project Insight—a program designed to help college students get the most out of their college experience—and out of life—by helping them identify their strengths and values, clarify their beliefs, eliminate self-defeating behavior patterns, and develop the habits that will support accomplishment of their goals.

Project Insight is a Life-Management Program designed to provide the skills that will help you navigate your life within a caring community of support for college students. Project Insight helps you to achieve personal and academic success by enabling you to focus on what is truly meaningful for you.

Project Insight consists of a free three-day weekend retreat at Camp Whittier, which is followed by monthly personal development workshops and intentionally designed social events. The introductory weekend retreat takes place in November of each year. This intensive weekend is designed to set the foundation for personal growth by giving you the opportunity to:

  • Take a personal inventory of the concerns you have at this stage in your life
  • Understand your behavior and feelings through self-awareness exercises
  • Experience your self-worth
  • Examine how other people contribute to or take away from living your best self
  • Focus on self-responsibility by confronting your fears and learning how to deal with them
  • “Get real” with yourself—for yourself—by acknowledging your character defects, thereby gaining truth and clarity about yourself and your life
  • Change, grow, evolve—and to experience how your choices create you. You will see that what happens in you is more important than what happens to you.

This experience in self-discovery takes place in a beautiful wilderness setting, where you will also have the chance to develop teamwork skills, challenge yourself on the high ropes course, and discover strengths and abilities you never knew you possessed.

Following the retreat, Project Insight offers you monthly workshops on topics such as:

  • The Foundations of “An Examined Life.”
  • Character Defects: Their Formation & Eradication
  • Addictions: Their Development & Healing
  • Fears: Their Cultivation & Control
  • Destructive Emotions & Unhealthy Choices
  • Developing & Nurturing “Right” Relationships
  • Understanding the Nature of Grief, Loss & Depression

Just as important, Project Insight will give you the opportunity to form meaningful friendships with like-minded college students—friendships that often last a lifetime and are capable of supporting you through life’s triumphs and setbacks.

We know from the experience of hundreds of other young people that Project Insight will give you new insights into your self, your relationships, and your purpose in life. If you would like to know more about participating in Project Insight, please email your questions to info@emmaus-sb.org.

We look forward to welcoming you to one of the most joyful and profound experiences of a lifetime—Project Insight: The College Experience.

Let the journey begin!

Very truly yours,

John Ramos
