“To
the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the
world”
-Unknown
Dear Friend:
Emmaus of Santa
Barbara needs your support!
You can make
a difference in the lives of your college peers—and
at the same time, undertake your own journey of self-discovery—as
a volunteer Team Leader
for Emmaus.
Emmaus is looking
for 50 dedicated young adults
to be trained as Team Leaders for PROJECTINSIGHT, in our life-changing
program to empower college students to start taking charge of their
lives by giving them the tools they need to realize their self-worth,
fulfill their potential, and learn responsibility to self and others.
PROJECTINSIGHT
begins during a three-day retreat in the mountains
behind Santa Barbara. As a Team Leader, you will help participants
get to know themselves and each other. You will be a role model
as these young people confront their fears, admit their weaknesses,
and challenge themselves to live up to their potential. You will
help them build supportive teams, learn to trust and overcome fear
on the Ropes Course, give them positive feedback about their strengths,
and celebrate when they remove their masks and reveal who they truly
are. You will be a mirror that gives these young people powerful
experiences in self-awareness, self-acceptance and self-creation.
You will start them on the journey of self-discovery! You, yourself,
will have one of the most meaningful weekends of your life.
We will train
you to be effective Team Leader. This training will take place over
the course of nine Sunday evening workshops covering Project Insight,
Leadership Training curriculum. You will learn group leadership
principles, techniques, and strategies, particularly: how to create
a safe environment for self-revelation; ways to handle and engage
non-cooperative group members; and when to seek qualified professional
assistance (as in the revelation of sexual or other forms of abuse).
You will also
get to experience the PROJECTINSIGHT retreat—including the
thrilling Ropes Course—yourself. You will see for yourself
just how powerful this three-day experience is, and how this comprehensive
life-management curriculum can help you make dramatic changes in
your own life.
In exchange for your Team Leader training, certification, and development,
Emmaus will ask you to help with the PROJECTINSIGHT retreat weekend.
Most people complete this in a very short time, and a large percentage
give even more of their time—because they find the experience
so meaningful to themselves and others!
Team
leader training starts soon! We have training sessions
and workshops throughout September, October and November, leading
up to the PROJECTINSIGHT retreat on the weekend before Thanksgiving!
Please see attached calendar for the times and dates of our workshops
and events.
You will receive
community service credit, certification, and the satisfaction of
truly helping others, while you grow yourself! Most Team Leaders
also forge friendships that last a lifetime.
If you are interested
in learning more about volunteering with Emmaus, please contact
our Program Director at (805) 569-8830, or e-mail us at staff@emmaus-sb.org.
Let the journey
begin!
With warm regards,
John Ramos
